Colorado Chef of the Year 2020 & Guardian of Rocky Mountain Flavors

Chef Maria’s passion for cooking was ignited at a young age, as she learned to cook with her mom in Brazil and blossomed through global gastronomic adventures. Her culinary journey led her to study environmental engineering and sustainable cuisine, driven by her desire to make a positive impact in local communities and teaching her the importance of high-quality, local ingredients.

After a few years apres skiing in Vail, Maria fell in love with the Mountain Lifestyle and decided to call it home. Chef Maria embarked on a successful career working in renowned Michelin Starred restaurants across the country and eventually owning a wood-fired restaurant in Washington State- The Black Cypress. Returning to Vail, started at Mountain Standard and Sweet Basil, leading both kitchens for 5 years. Maria was honored as the “Chef of the Year 2020” by the Colorado Restaurant Association. In 2022 voted Best Chef in Vail Valley. 

When she is not cooking, Maria is snowboarding, hiking with her dog Pip or traveling around the world with husband Simon.
